Firstly I have to say I'm writing this off old information, but hoping its still correct and that it can help new players get started.
On most other shards you only gain skill fast if you have a large chance of failing when using the skill, lets take blacksmithy for example, you would want to keep ur success chance as low as possible to gain as fast as possible...
Here however the odds of gaining are even as long as you have a chance of failing, so if you craft and item with 99% success chance you can still gain in that skill, (bear in mind that you will improve your chace of making the item if you do) so ideally you would craft with a high success chance so you could either use your materials again or sell that which you had made...
The same would apply for spells ect, one could see on uo.stratics what the relevant skills are for casting with a chance to fail (it does cut down on training time a little).
Lastly to finish off your stats (Str, Dex, Int) you can keep using a skill (even if you have it at 120) to gain as long as you have a chance of failing when using it, if i remember correctly mining was good for str, snooping for dex (only with your guildmate's permission) and evaluate intelligence for Int.
Once again, its been a whilst since I've had to do this and not all the information could be correct, but it should help new players get into the game a bit faster.
Ps. for easy money escort the nobles via the red world teleport pads.
